Winter 2015

I recently went to a birthday party for a friend. My husband and I were standing on the snowy front step, waiting for the door to open, clutching our bottle of wine. You always feel a little apprehensive. Are you early? Late? Who will be there? Will you know anyone?

But then the door opens and the host or hostess welcomes you into their home and takes your coat. The smell from the kitchen is just intoxicating, you’re offered a drink, the fireplace is blazing and you feel like everything is right in the world.

That’s how we want Life+Spaces to feel! When you open the front cover, we’re welcoming you into our home. We can’t magically produce a smell of cookies baking, but we can offer you the latest home and lifestyle tips to enrich your life and make it more fulfilling. So turn your phone off, have a steaming hot cup of Earl Gray, snuggle under a warm throw and enjoy our winter issue.

Here’s what’s waiting for you:

• Our Managing Editor Kathy Jonas was lucky enough to spend some time with Motown artist and long-time South Bend drummer Billy Stix Nicks. While he turned 80 years young in December, his life as a sharecropper’s son who sees the world is fascinating.

• Jewelry artist Christine Mighion has had her work featured in all the top magazines, including Elle and Self. Journey into her rustic workshop in the woods and learn how she channels her creative energy.

• Do you have an area of your home that you want spruced up, but don’t know where to start? We’ve talked with some local designers who are on the cutting edge of the latest décor trends for 2015. Don’t be a slave to fashion, but take advantage of easy ways to update and add personality.

Winter can be inspiring!
